Push the STOP/EJECT slider up and the lid swings open on its left hinge.
Put your best mixtape inside. It slides in tape-edge first and drops onto the spindles.
PLAY latches down, the reels turn and both volume sliders come up.
Three knurled keys stacked on the side. PLAY is the long one and latches down.
The silver key on top. Press it and the built-in mic lets two listeners talk over the music.
A small switch on the side sets the bias for Normal or CrO₂ / Metal tape.

Runs from a mains adaptor when the two AA cells are flat.
